We are so excited to share with you today our latest project reveal! This home in West University Place in Houston was purchased early in 2023 by our fantastic clients. Upon closing on the home, our client brought in the Studio L Interior Design team to walkthrough the empty spaces and discuss their goals and vision for the spaces. The location and layout of the house was fantastic, but the spaces needed a refresh on furnishings and some finishes, to give it new life and personality.

WEST UNIVERISTY RESIDENCE – DESIGN
Upon interviewing our clients, our design team began selecting new materials and finishes and drafting up new furniture layouts for each space. We sourced inspiring images of completed spaces to help set the tone and desired feel for the new rooms.
On the first floor, the entry hallway is somewhat narrow, so we sourced a thin console table and paired it with the client’s gorgeous mirror, new table lamp, and simple accessories. Further down the hallway across from the dining room, a luxurious acrylic bench with forest green velvet would be the perfect spot for arriving guests.
The dining room was a great space to make a strong design impression. Because the space is set apart from the open living room and kitchen, we decided to change the paint color in the dining room and go very bold with a dramatic wallpaper on the ceiling. Treating the “5th wall” helps draw the eye up and gives the room a wonderful focal point. For furnishings, we used the client’s existing buffet piece and paired it with a modern light wood dining table and striking dining chairs with performance fabric seat cushions. Because of the bold wallpapered ceiling, the selected the drapery panels to be a solid netural linen, and a quiet but sophisticated neutral rug. Bold, modern artwork and funky lamps give the room a wonderful layered and welcoming feel.
Our team selected a cozy sectional to be the anchoring piece in the family room, opposite a pair of modern swivel chairs in a geometric blue fabric. Vibrant jewel-toned blue table lamps were placed on the console table behind. The oversized cocktail table is solid wood and a in a beautiful washed oak finish. Our clients wanted to open up the upper bookcases flanking the fireplace, so we suggested adding a patterned grasscloth wallpaper in the backs of the shelves. Small touches of brass on the floor lamps, swivel ottomans and side table bring cohesiveness and warmth to this cool toned room.
We wanted to carry the cool blues and grays into the kitchen, so we selected a classic herringbone carrara marble backsplash and a stunning soft blue gray paint color for the cabinets. To help balance the grand light fixture in the breakfast room, we paired it with a dark wood dining table, perfect for young kids! We brought in the lighter wood finish again on the breakfast chairs, and a subtle dot print for the chair fabric. A watercolor inspired fabric was selected for the roman shades in the breakfast room and kitchen.
In the upstairs primary bedroom, our goal was to make the space an oasis and extremely calming. The room has gorgeous windows and tons of natural light, so we sourced a beautiful wave pattern wallpaper to envelop the entire room. This was our main focal point and pattern, so the other drapery and upholstery fabrics were simple, textured and quiet.
Our last focus was the upstairs playroom, which is used for hangouts, games, and a great lego collection! So we chose a loungey sofa, vibrant green modern swivel chairs, and a fabulous area rug that is actually composed of floor carpet tiles. Bold greens, teals, and warm woods set a fun and vibrant feel for this kid friendly space.
