How the Pandemic is Changing How People Design Their Home

There’s no question the pandemic has changed how we live; especially when it comes to our homes. Lockdowns and social distancing have caused for us to slow down, and spend more time at home. Our homes have become the main settings of our lives, where we work, sleep, exercise, and socialize. As we continue to find ourselves spending more time at home, we are finding ways to accommodate home offices, home gyms, and even a space for a little quiet time.

From structural changes, repurposing spaces, rearranging layouts, and aesthetic changes, interior design trends have been changing as a result of the pandemic.

OPTIMIZING CURRENT SPACES

One of the easiest ways to maximize your “at home” space is optimizing an underused space. Attics, garages, formal dining rooms, and spare bedroom are all transforming into spaces with purpose! Like home offices, craft rooms, remote learn spaces, and home gyms.

HOME GYMS

Creating an at home space to exercise is a highly sought-after space now. Weights, kettlebells, and a stationary bike might be your favorite equipment, but they can be pretty hard to style, especially if you don’t have a room you can fully dedicate to them. While yoga mats can easily be tucked away and rolled out just about anywhere, finding a spot for equipment without disrupting the flow of your space can feel like a workout in itself! Good news, designing a home gym that suits your style and your workout routine is possible! Convert a spare bedroom, or garage to serve two purposes; even making use of a space in the basement or attic.

HOME OFFICE

The days of popping open your laptop at the dining room table seem long gone, as working from home and remote learning are still apart of our “new normal.” When designing a dedicated space for work, properly outfitting for work is key. If you’re running low on space, have no fear there are solutions! Convert a guest room into a dual-purpose space, making use of the unused space underneath your stairwell, or finding a quiet corner in a bedroom, living area, or even a closet space can work too! And for remote learning spaces, a playroom can easily be transformed into a multipurpose space for school and play!
