If you’ve followed along with this blog for a bit, you are aware that my husband and I purchased and renovated our home (it was flooded by Hurricane Harvey) in Houston, TX in 2018 – we lovingly called the project “Studio L Place to Dwell.” I revealed the “after” of our remodel, but have yet to show you any of the furnished rooms! We have paused for awhile to catch our breath after last years project, but I have now started to put together my dream design plans for the rooms that need new furnishings. Starting with the master bedroom – a space I am hoping will be serene, restful and a bit eclectic.
PROJECT: STUDIO L PLACE TO DWELL – MASTER BEDROOM DESIGN PLAN – THE INSPIRATION
After scouring Pinterest for inspiration, I came across this GORGEOUS bedroom by the mega-talented Houston based designer, Julie Dodson of Dodson Inteirors. Here’s what I love about this inspiring master bedroom:
-
eclectic mix of furnishings – antiques + modern elements
-
soothing color palette – light walls and trim color
-
pops of metallic – funky brass lamps
-
classic settee at the end of the bed
-
tailored upholstered headboard
-
large mirrors behind traditional nightstands
-
simple bedding with impactful throw pillows
PROJECT: STUDIO L PLACE TO DWELL – MASTER BEDROOM DESIGN PLAN
So with my inspiration image as a jumping off point, I began to collect options for all of the furnishings our bedroom would need. Luckily, we already have a simple gray upholstered headboard, very similar to the one in the inspiration room. I sourced the nightstands below with drawers, because we absolutely need more storage….our master closet is NOT large. Anchoring both of the nightstands, I love the antique brass traditional mirrors, paired with funky white porcelain table lamps . This mix really starts to reinforce the eclectic vibe! I will stick with white linen bedding we already have, and add these beautiful turquoise/white throw pillows in a graphic print for modern impact.
At the foot of the bed, I found a vintage settee from a seller on Chairish – this guy is still patiently waiting in our garage to get reupholstered :). The super modern and fun lucite + brass accent table will sit in front of the settee, just like in Julie’s design. And my most favorite elements of all – this beautiful rug! Once I found it online, I ordered a sample and fell in love – it is very soft, stain resistant, and the classic pattern is so fresh in these soothing colors.
Check out the materials that I plan to use in the space – the classic area rug will add soft color and pattern on top of our neutral wood flooring. For drapery fabric, I selected this neutral linen with a subtle blush embroidered fan pattern. That will be paired with a sleek brass set of drapery hardware. The icy blue accent pillow fabric will likely go on the bed, and then a solid velvet blush accent pillow will rest on the settee.
