The past several years, cool steely gray has dominated the neutral color game. Some of you may gasp in horror, but I believe we will be seeing less and less cool gray in the upcoming year. Well then, you may ask, which neutral will reign supreme? Let’s take a look at my predictions for the new neutrals in 2018.
THE NEW NEUTRALS #1 – GREIGE
Ok, ok. There is a still a bit of gray in my first neutral color prediction, so gray lovers – don’t panic! But the twist on this pick is much warmer. I think we will be seeing warm griege shades used on cabinetry, wall color, upholstery, and more. The overall color shift is toward neutrals that have warmer undertones. I am a big fan of this neutral – it is classic, fresh and bright! Sometimes the cool grays of the past were too heavy and dark for me.
THE NEW NEUTRALS #2 – SAGE
The next new neutral for 2018 is sage green! While many don’t think of green in general as a neutral color, you can see that neutral sage has only a slight green undertone, so it still works easily in a variety of color schemes. Sage is great for rooms where you want a natural/relaxed/bohemian vibe. Sage green doesn’t need to cover all of your walls – it is great in smaller doses.
THE NEW NEUTRALS #3 – WARM WHITE
I am a die-hard lover of all things white, so I am on board with the shift to warmer whites in 2018. Like the other neutrals above, warmer undertones are the key to achieving this look. Warm white is a lot cozier than it’s cool white counterpart. It’s beautiful with natural wood finishes, and I love it with brass accents.
So there you have it. These 3 new neutral color predictions for 2018 have a fresh, warm feel. Are you a fan of these warmer neutral hues? Or will you be sticking with your trusty cool grays? And please, feel free to share this blog post with a friend that is painstakingly trying to select a new paint color…these new neutrals might be the winner!
